Electrotherapy may be considered as one part of physiotherapy after safety screening. RiseUp does not promise that TENS, IFT, ultrasound or another modality is necessary for every patient.
What electrotherapy means in physiotherapy
Electrotherapy is a broad term for selected device-assisted modalities used by physiotherapists. Depending on the device, the intended short-term aim may be symptom modulation or muscle activation. It is an adjunct, not a complete rehabilitation plan and not automatically appropriate for every pain condition.
Assessment comes before equipment
The physiotherapist first reviews the diagnosis, symptoms, skin condition, sensation, circulation, medical devices and relevant precautions. A home visit also requires confirmation that the appropriate equipment is available. Treatment should not be selected only because a machine is popular or because another patient received it.
How it fits into active rehabilitation
When clinically suitable, a modality may be combined with education, movement, strengthening and functional practice. Progress should be measured using useful outcomes such as walking, range of motion, strength or daily-task tolerance rather than relying only on a temporary change in pain.
When it may not be appropriate
Device-specific contraindications vary. The therapist must consider implanted electronic devices, altered sensation, damaged skin, pregnancy-related precautions, active infection and other medical concerns. Patients should not apply borrowed or online-purchased equipment without correct screening and instruction.
Home-service boundaries
RiseUp confirms modality suitability and equipment availability before promising electrotherapy at home. Some patients will receive a recommendation for exercise-led care, medical review or clinic-based treatment instead.
Frequently asked questions
No. A physiotherapist selects treatment after assessment, and many rehabilitation plans do not require an electrical modality.
No permanent cure can be promised. It may support short-term symptom management for selected patients while active rehabilitation addresses movement and function.
Potentially, when it is clinically suitable and the correct equipment and trained physiotherapist are available for the locality.
