The role of home neuro therapy
A neuro physiotherapist may work on bed mobility, sitting, standing, balance, walking and task practice according to medical stability and assessment. Recovery varies greatly, so treatment goals should be specific to the person rather than based on a fixed timetable.
How caregivers can help safely
Follow the handling method demonstrated by the neurological therapist. Avoid pulling a weak arm, rushing transfers or practising stairs without clearance. Keep instructions simple, allow time to respond and position essential items where they can be reached safely.
Build practice into daily life
Short, correctly performed practice may be incorporated into rolling, sitting, standing or walking routines. Quality and safety matter more than repeating an unsuitable movement. Fatigue, pain and concentration can change from day to day.
Know the emergency signs
Any new facial droop, arm weakness, speech difficulty, sudden severe headache, loss of balance or altered consciousness may indicate another stroke. Contact emergency medical services immediately; do not wait for a physiotherapy appointment.
